nERAM is a fantasy horror film which premiered at the Dubai International Film Festival on February 19, 2016. It was written and directed by Robin Aubert, who also created the movie's soundtrack by performing all of the music himself. nERAM follows a group of friends holidaying in an isolated house in South America who are forced to fight off an ancient evil entity that invades their minds. The film begins with "teenage heroes" being given their first mission by higher powers—to save mankind by preventing the apocalypse from occurring through defeating the Ancient One. They then fly into the North American continent, but are separated by a supernatural force, and their powers begin to weaken. They eventually reunite at an isolated house in the middle of the woods with no signs of civilization for miles. At first, things seem peaceful and they try to enjoy their vacation: playing music and setting up camp while nothing seems out of the ordinary. However it becomes evident that one member of the group is deeply troubled: he blames himself for his brother's disappearance during a previous mission and has been secretly taking drugs to deal with his guilt. When his friends notice his erratic behaviour, he runs into the forest and disappears just like his brother. Throughout the day, more strange things happen. Their belongings are inexplicably dragged around the house. They hear eerie noises like heavy footsteps and knocking on doors. Although they try to come up with an explanation for this, they eventually accept that something must be seriously wrong and that it must be paranormal in nature; because otherwise they'd be off their rocker imagining these details. After much deliberation, they decide to prepare for bed since they can't seem to figure out what's going on. They ponder the reason for their vacation. They then discover that one of their members is missing. They search for him throughout the house but, just like with the others' inexplicable disappearances, they mysteriously cannot find him anywhere. Distraught by this development, they decide to split up and search the house separately. They go upstairs to look for him and discover he's not there either. Suddenly, one of them sees something moving in her peripheral vision—the door is opening! She goes over to close it but it suddenly slams shut by itself leaving her behind; where her friend was standing before is now an eerie darkness that swallows everything that comes into contact with it (a portal). It was the last thing they saw before their friend was taken... As the group reunites, they all hear a faint voice calling out to someone. They follow it out to the woods where their friend is being held captive in an altar-like structure. Someone with supernatural powers has captured him there, and is attempting to steal his soul. Before their friend's soul can be transferred into another body, one of them decides to take things into her own hands.
